Help stop East Surrey Hospitals fertility clinic from closing…

By Bud / 11th Jan, 2017

One mum’s mission to save a vital local resource
for those trying to conceive.

Emma Hillman knows all too well the essential role the NHS Fertility Clinic at East Surrey Hospital plays for those who are struggling to conceive in the local area. With the help of consultant fertility specialist Dr Walied Youssef and the rest of the staff at the East Surrey Hospital Fertility Clinic, Emma was given the support and confidence to cope with the traumatic loss of a 4th miscarriage and encouraged not to give up trying again. Under this specialist care Emma gave birth to a healthy baby girl in November.

So, despite only recently having given birth, hearing the news that the Fertility Clinic faces closure in early 2017, Emma has made it her mission to raise awareness of the potential loss of such a vital service for couples dealing with infertility in the Surrey and Sussex area.

Emma said of the closure: “If the East Surrey Hospital NHS fertility clinic closes then there will be nowhere locally in Surrey or Sussex for childless couples to receive treatment or to even have investigations into the cause of their fertility problems.”

Campaigning against the closure and to try and reverse the decision Emma has started a petition and she needs your signatures to help! Read more and sign here.

With the fertility post code lottery a hot topic in the media at the moment, a number of big changes in treatment provision offered by CCGs already, and the threat of more to come – it has never been more important to have your voice heard.

Read Emma’s story…

Having just given birth at East Surrey with our second baby successfully conceived with the help of Fertility specialist Dr Walied Youssef, we feel so sad to hear that the managers of the Surrey and Sussex NHS trust feel it necessary to close the fertility clinic at east Surrey effective the 31st March 2017. The staff at east Surrey were fantastic in helping my husband and I to deal with our 4th miscarriage after I was rushed to hospital via ambulance for excessive blood loss. They gave us both the confidence to try again which we did and here we are just over a year down the line from the miscarriage last year with our happy healthy little girl, that would not have been possible had it not been for the amazing care and treatment we received from Dr Youssef. My husband and I would like to do everything in our power to ensure this clinic stays running, as it is so vitally important to couples unable to have babies naturally. The effects of infertility are devastating as my adoptive parents know all too well. We were fortunate enough to be able to see Dr Youssef privately but not everyone can afford this luxury and to not have any support in Surrey and Sussex seems very harsh indeed.
